New Project: The Emergence of the Federal Constitutional Law

The project "The Genesis of the Federal Constitutional Law", a common project of the Institute for Legal and Constitutional History of the University of Vienna (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Olechowski), the Institute for Political Science and Philosophy of Law of the University of Freiburg i.Br. (PD Dr. Jörg Kammerhofer) and the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexandra N. Lenz), will start on January 1, 2023. The aim of the project is to trace the genesis of the federal constitution still in force today on the basis of the most important sources and texts of the years 1919 and 1920. These materials will be digitized, transcribed and commented on both text-critically and from a legal-historical perspective. The sources will already be made accessible to the public during the project's duration in the course of successive indexing and permanently secured on the long-term repository ARCHE. The project is being carried out in close cooperation with the Austrian State Archives and the Parliamentary Archives and is financed about half by the Austrian Science Fund FWF and half by the German Research Foundation DFG.
